Historic Downtown Hendersonville

The Hendersonville Historic Main Street Shopping District, with its wide sidewalks, planters brimming with flowers, comfortable benches, and first-class shopping, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and makes a perfect venue for this popular annual event. Downtown Hendersonville—RealGenuine.

There are more than 100 shops and businesses located in Downtown Hendersonville's tree-lined, serpentine Main Street and the Avenues.   This vibrant historic district is home to art galleries, antique and gift shops, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants.

Throughout the spring and summer, Downtown is host to a number of indoor/outdoor events including the Garden Jubilee (May), Main Street Antique Sidewalk Show (June), Do Tell Storyfest (July), Chalk It Up! Art Extravaganza (July) and Living History Weekend (August). Also in mid-June through mid-August, you’ll hear lots of music downtown, with the ever-popular Music On Main concerts every Friday night and the fabulous Monday night Street Dances featuring mountain heritage music and dancing.

On Labor Day weekend (Sept.), the renowned North Carolina Apple Festival arrives to pay tribute to our area’s extensive apple heritage, followed by special leaf-peeping events,  and a unique Art on Main weekend (Oct.). The Holiday Lighting Celebration (Nov.) kicks off the Winter Holidays in style with a wonderful community gathering at the gazebo on Main.

Hendersonville is encircled by the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and bounded by the state of South Carolina and only 25 miles from Downtown Asheville.  With close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock Park, DuPont State Forest, Pisgah Forest, and other major attractions like the NC State Theatre / Flat Rock Playhouse, and the NC Arboretum. Whether you’re here for a day trip, a week vacation, or you’re here to stay forever, we hope you’ll take the time to visit Historic Downtown Hendersonville.
